ANNUAL OUTING!!!

Local #71 2010 Outing was a success again this year. Over 150 tickets were sold and over 140 members attended thoughout the day.

The horeshoe tounament was won by John Allen and Paul Dean. Congratulations to a couple of ringers!

Although the weather was not cooperating for the whole day a good time was had by all. We would like to thank the membership for their support of this worthwhile function and encourage all members to participate in the future.

The strength of our organization has always been the members and our continued success depends on YOUR participation.

Look forward to seeing everyone at Darien Lake on September 10, 11, and 12. For more information, contact the Union office.

Local #71 Intstalls 1st solar Space Heater

Local #71 is in the process of updating our facility by replacing the existing window panels with energy efficient enclosures. At the same time, the Executive Board approved the purchase and installation of up to three solar space heaters in an effort to expand the available scope of work for our industry. Having a completed project to demonstrate how solar can be beneficial and cost effective along with the weatherization of a facility is our ultimate good.

We would like to thank instructor Tim Benner, along with apprentices Derek Reukauf and Andrew Stevens for the time and commitment to the project.

Special Called Meeting

This month’s Union Meeting will be a Special Called Meeting to allocate the $1.75 pay increase. From this increase $.31 must be allocated to the National Pension Fund. Please note there is a change on the date of the meeting. It has been changed from Tuesday April 20th, 2010 to Tuesday April 27th, 2010 at 7:00 pm at the Hearthstone Manor. Please make every effort to attend this important meeting.

Leed Training for Members

SMW Local # 71 is pleased to hold it’s first Leed Training Seminar for our members. Twenty-one members will be in attendance for training on January 21st and 22nd, in an effort to stay ahead of constant changes in the construction industry. We are also developing a full schedule of additional training to be offered by the Union this year.

Final UB Home Football Game
