Apprenticeships

Our apprentice training consists of 5 years of formal classroom training combined with 8000 hours of on the job training. Apprentices attend school 2 evenings a week, for four hours an evening, covering every aspect of the local Sheet Metal industry.

Apprentice wages and benefits are based on our journeyman wage package.

Effective May 20th, 2013, our package will be:

$32.50 Envelope Rate
- Plus -
$5.00 Health & Welfare – every hour WORKED
$5.89 National Pension – every hour PAID (overtime hrs weighted)
$5.25 Local Pension – every hour PAID (overtime hrs weighted)
$2.96 Annuity – every hour PAID (overtime hrs weighted)

$51.77 TOTAL

1st year 45% of current envelope rate
2nd year 50% of current envelope rate
3rd year 55% of current envelope rate
4th year 70% of current envelope rate
5th year 80% of current envelope rate

HOW TO APPLY

Local # 71 accepts applications for our apprenticeship program on a weekly basis. Applications are available on Thursdays, between the hours of 9:30 am and 12:30 pm, except on the third Thursday of the month, when the hours are from 2:00 pm till 5:00 pm.
